radiographer は radiography + -er「…する人」からできた語で、radi- はラテン語 radius「光線」、-graph はギリシャ語 graphein「書く・描く」です。つまり「放射線で像を描く人」で、職能の中身がそのまま語形に出ています。関連語に radiograph、graphic がある。
Radiographer was formed in modern English from radiography plus the agent ending -er. The first part comes from Latin radius, "ray," and the second from Greek graphein, "to write" or "draw."
