scopolamine はドイツ語 Scopolamin に由来し、学名 Scopolia（スコポリア属）＋ amine からできた語。Scopolia は博物学者 Scopoli の名、amine はアミン化合物を示し、atropine も関連語。つまり「スコポリア由来の成分」という名づけである。
Scopolamine came into English from German Scopolamin. The name was formed from Scopolia, the plant genus where the substance was identified, plus amine, the chemical term for that class of compounds. Scopolia itself was named after the naturalist Scopoli, so the word originally meant an amine from Scopolia. A related drug name is atropine.
