物質が別の物質の表面に吸着される、または内部に吸収される現象。吸着と吸収の両方を包括する科学用語。
Sorption is the process by which one substance is taken up by another through either adsorption on its surface or absorption into its interior. It is a general scientific term covering both processes.

sorption はラテン語 sorbere「吸いこむ」に由来する sorb に、名詞語尾 -tion がついた科学語です。もとは取りこみを広く表し、物質が別の物質の表面に吸着される場合と内部に吸収される場合の両方を含むため、この行のように「収着」という意味で使われます。
Sorption is a scientific noun built from sorb and the ending -tion. Sorb comes from Latin sorbere, meaning "to suck in" or "absorb," the same root seen in absorb and resorb. Because of that broad idea of taking something in, sorption became a general term for uptake, including both adsorption on a surface and absorption into a material.
