sorption はラテン語 sorbere「吸いこむ」に由来する sorb に、名詞語尾 -tion がついた科学語です。もとは取りこみを広く表せますが、材料表面では分子が表面へ取りこまれる形になるため、この行のように「吸着」という意味で使われます。
