解説 Definition
脱着は、物質が別の物質の表面に吸着していた状態から離れる現象です。化学や物理学の分野では、吸着と脱着は相反する過程であり、温度やプレッシャーなどの条件により起こります。
Desorption is the process in which a substance leaves a surface after being attached to it. This word is used mainly in chemistry, physics, and material science. It is the opposite of adsorption.

adsorption（吸着）とセットで覚えるのが最短です。化学では adsorb が「表面にくっつく」、desorb がその逆で「表面から離れる」。de- は decrease, defrost などにもある「外す・戻す」の感覚。実際も desorption of gas from a surface のように、何かが表面から抜けていく場面で出る語。absorption は内部まで吸収、adsorption は表面に吸着、desorption はその解除、と3語で並べると混同しにくいです。
Learn it together with `adsorption`. If `adsorb` means something sticks to a surface, `desorb` is the reverse: it comes off the surface. To avoid confusion, line up three words: `absorption` goes inside, `adsorption` stays on the surface, and `desorption` leaves the surface.
