物体の表面が光をどの程度反射するかを示す物理量。光学や材料科学で使われる。
Reflectance is the amount or percentage of light or other radiation that a surface sends back after it hits it. It is often used in science, engineering, photography, and materials testing. A high reflectance means the surface reflects a lot, while a low reflectance means it absorbs more.

reflectance の語源・成り立ち Etymology
「reflectance」は reflect＋-ance。reflect はラテン語 reflectere にさかのぼり、re-「後ろへ」＋flectere「曲げる」で、「光を返す」が芯にある。だから reflectance は表面の反射量を表す。関連語は reflection、deflect。
Reflectance is built from reflect + the noun suffix -ance. Reflect comes from Latin reflectere, from re- "back" + flectere "to bend," with the idea of bending light back. From that sense, reflectance came to mean the amount of light sent back from a surface. Related English words include reflection and deflect.
