Refraction is the bending of light or another wave as it passes from one material into another. It is a common term in physics and optics, such as when light moves through air, water, or glass. This change in direction happens because the wave travels at a different speed.

`fraction` や `fracture` を知っていると覚えやすい語です。どれも `fract` に「割る・折る」の感覚があり、`refraction` は「光の進み方が折れ曲がること」とつなげると定着します。`reflection`（反射）と混同しやすいので注意。反射は surface で跳ね返る、refraction は water や glass に入って進路が曲がる、という場面で対比すると整理しやすいです。物理では `refraction of light` や `angle of refraction` の形でよく出ます。
