Refracted describes light, sound, or another wave after it has bent while passing through a different substance or medium. The term is mainly used in science, especially physics and optics.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず react ではなく refract のまとまりで覚える。核は fract で、fracture（骨折）にもある「折れる・曲がる」感覚。そこに re- が付いて、光がそのまま進まず進路を曲げ直されるイメージを持つとよい。reflected は表面で「反射して戻る」、refracted は水やガラスの中へ入り「中で向きが変わる」。a refracted ray（屈折光）のように、光学の文脈で見たら『媒質が変わって進路が曲がった状態』を思い出す。
Remember the core refract, not react. The part fract also appears in fracture, which can help you picture something bending or changing direction. Use a contrast: reflected light bounces back from a surface, but refracted light goes through something like water or glass and changes direction inside it. That contrast makes the word much easier to keep in memory.
