reflector は reflect + -or で、reflect は re-「後ろへ」+ flect「曲げる」。ラテン語 flectere にさかのぼり、光をただ返すのでなく「折り曲げて戻す物」と見ると反射板の働きが腑に落ちます。deflect, flexible が近縁です。
