ギリシャ語の toxon「弓」+ plasma「形づくられたもの」+ -osis「病的状態」から成る語です。原虫 Toxoplasma が弓形に見えることから名づけられ、plasma や protoplasm も同じ plasm 系で「形づくられたもの」の感覚を共有します。
"Toxoplasmosis" is built from Greek parts: "toxon" meaning "bow," "plasma" meaning something formed or shaped, and "-osis" meaning a diseased condition. The parasite was named "Toxoplasma" because its form looked bow-shaped. The disease name then came from the parasite name. "Plasma" and "protoplasm" share the same root about something formed or molded.
