序数として順序や順番で20番目に位置することを表す語。20という数の順序上の位置を示すときに使われる。
Twentieth means number 20 in an ordered series. It is used for positions, dates, floors, centuries, and similar rankings. It comes after nineteenth and before twenty-first.

まず twenty を確実に土台に置くと覚えやすいです。序数は four→fourth, six→sixth のように「数字＋-th」で作る形が多く、twentieth もその仲間だと見ると整理できます。つづりは twenty がそのままではなく twentie- になって -th が付く形に注意。意味は「20」という数そのものではなく「20番目」で、the twentieth century, the twentieth floor のように順番や位置を言う場面で出やすいです。twenty と twentieth を対で覚えると混同しにくくなります。

twentieth は古英語 twentigoþa にさかのぼり、twenty（古英語 twentig）+ 序数語尾 -th でできています。twenty は two と同系で、twice や twin も同じ語根の仲間です。「二十」という数を、そのまま順番に並べ替えた語だと見えてきます。
