解説 Definition
賞賛、同情、報酬、信頼などを受けるだけの資格や価値がないと見なされることを表す形容詞。単に不適切というより、「それを受けるに値しない」という評価や自己認識を示すときに使うことが多い。
Undeserving means not worthy of something such as praise, reward, or sympathy. It is used when someone seems not to have earned good treatment or does not have a right to it. This word often expresses a moral judgment.

まず un- + deserving と分けると覚えやすいです。deserve「〜に値する」を知っていれば、undeserving はそのまま反対の「値しない」。特に praise, sympathy, trust, reward などと相性がよく、a person undeserving of praise のように「褒められる資格がない」の形で出やすいです。単なる bad や inappropriate ではなく、「受け取るだけの資格がない」という評価が核。unworthy と近いですが、undeserving の方が「その扱いを受けるに値しない」という判断がよりはっきり出ます。
