覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
「支える・後ろに寄りかかる」というイメージ。名詞で「証拠・根拠」を表すproofと違い、動詞「支える」のニュアンスが強いです。実際、support（支える）と同じ語源です。頻出表現はlean back against the wall（壁にもたれかかる）や、There is no evidence against him（彼に対する証拠はない）。前置詞againstと一緒に覚えると、動詞・前置詞の両方で「反対・接触」のイメージを共有でき効率的です。
Think of an illness "coming down" onto your body, making your condition go lower. That picture makes "come down with" easy to connect with sickness. It is very common in phrases like "come down with a cold" or "come down with the flu."

service の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 servitium（奉仕、隷属）から古フランス語 service を経て英語に入った。語根 servus は「奴隷、仕える者」の意。関連語: servant（仕える人）、serve（仕える）。「誰かのために働く」が原義で、現代の「公共サービス・顧客対応」へと意味が広がった。
