visor の語源・成り立ち Etymology
visor は古フランス語 visiere を経て、ラテン語 videre「見る」に連なる vis-「見る」が核です。vision や visible も同根で、目元を覆う部品なのに「視界のためのもの」が語源にあると、バイザーの役割がはっきり見えます。
Visor came through Old French visiere and is related to Latin videre, meaning "to see." Its root is the same vis- found in vision and visible. Even though a visor covers part of the face, the word kept its link to sight because it is shaped around protecting or guiding what the wearer can see.
