誰かと初めて知り合いになる、または既に知っている人とより親しく知るようになることを意味する。誰かのことをよく知るようになるプロセス。
To acquaint someone with something means to help them become familiar with it or learn basic information about it. It can also mean to introduce people to each other. The word is common in formal or written English.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
acquaint は単体で覚えるより、acquaintance（知人）と acquainted（知っている）の語族でまとめると定着しやすい。会っただけなら meet、紹介の動作なら introduce、相手や情報に“なじませて知る状態にする”のが acquaint。get acquainted with ... は「知り合いになる」、be acquainted with ... は「…を知っている」、acquaint A with B は「A に B を知らせる」。familiarize A with B に近いが、acquaint のほうがやや改まった語感。つづりは長いが、with と一緒に出やすい語だと意識すると記憶に残る。
Link it to `acquaintance`, a person you know. To `acquaint` two people is to make them acquainted with each other. It is much more formal and rarer than `introduce`, so remember it as the stiff, formal version.
