人に情報や物事を知らせて、それについてよく知るようにさせることを表します。初めての場所や仕事、考え方などに人を慣れさせたり、必要な知識を伝えたりするときに使います。
To give someone information about something so that they know it or become familiar with it. It is often used in the pattern "acquaint someone with something."
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
acquaint は「人を情報・場所・規則などに触れさせ、よく知るようにさせる」という意味で、acquaint A with B「AにBを知らせる・慣れさせる」の型ごと覚えるのが最も確実です。acquaint students with the rules「学生に規則を周知する」、acquaint yourself with the system「仕組みをよく理解しておく」が典型。tell のように一件の情報を伝えるだけでなく、対象について必要な知識を得させる感じがあります。目的語の人の後には with が来る、と固定すると語順も迷いません。
Think of helping someone become familiar with new information. You acquaint them with it by telling or showing it to them.

acquaint の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古いフランス語の acointier から英語に入りました。この語は「知らせる」「知り合いにする」という意味を持ち、さらにラテン語の「知る」に関係する語にさかのぼります。
Acquaint came into English from Old French acointier, meaning "to make known" or "to make familiar." It ultimately goes back to Latin words connected with knowing.
