bullish は bull「雄牛」（古英語 bula）+ -ish「〜のような」からできた語。雄牛が角を上へ突き上げる姿が相場上昇の比喩になり、価格が上がると見る態度から「強気な」という意味になった。関連語は bull, bull market。
