camel はラテン語 camelus、ギリシア語 kamelos を経て、さらにセム語系の語にさかのぼる借用語です。接頭辞などに分ける語ではなく、砂漠の生活に密着した名称がそのまま英語へ入りました。camelid や camelhair でも同じ語幹が見えます。
