gladly は glad「うれしい」に副詞語尾 -ly が付いた語で、glad は古英語 glæd「明るい・輝く」に由来します。昔は「明るい感じ」がそのまま「うれしい気分」につながっており、喜んでという意味が光の比喩から見えてきます。gladden や gladness も同根です。
