要衝
解説 Definition
A narrow or critical place through which traffic, goods, communications, or military forces must pass, so that blockage or disruption there can affect the entire system. The term can describe physical locations or vulnerable points in a network or process.
Memory Tip
traffic chokepoint、strategic chokepoint、a chokepoint for global trade
Build the image from choke and point: a chokepoint is one critical point where a flow becomes narrow enough to be slowed or stopped. Picture traffic squeezing onto a narrow bridge, ships passing through a canal or strait, or goods moving through one vulnerable stage of a supply chain. If that single point fails, delays spread through the whole system. Useful combinations include traffic chokepoint, strategic chokepoint, and a chokepoint for global trade. Unlike an ordinary bottleneck, chokepoint often emphasises strategic importance and the possibility of deliberately controlling or blocking movement.

Etymology
Chokepoint is a compound of choke, “to obstruct or prevent a flow,” and point, “a particular place or position.” Its image is that of movement being forced through a narrow location where it can easily be restricted, much as choking blocks a passage. The term became especially useful in military and geographical discussion for straits, passes, canals, and routes, and later extended to transport, communications, logistics, and other interconnected systems.
