パルプ、果肉

pulp はラテン語 pulpa「やわらかい肉・果肉」が古フランス語を経て入った語です。pulpy も同根で、もともと「ぐにゃっとした中身」を指したため、果肉にも紙の原料のどろどろした繊維にも使われるようになりました。
Pulp comes from Latin pulpa, meaning "soft flesh" or "fruit flesh," and entered English through Old French. It originally referred to something soft and fleshy inside. That sense later expanded to fruit pulp and also to the soft, wet fiber used to make paper; a related word is pulpy.
