compressing は compress の進行形で、語源はラテン語 comprimere（押し固める）です。com-「共に」+ premere「押す」から成り、ばらばらのものを“ぎゅっと一緒に押す”イメージがそのまま「圧縮する」につながります。関連語は pressure, depress。
Compressing is formed regularly from compress plus the participial and gerund suffix -ing.
