表面が内側に向かってくぼんでいる形状。凸面の反対で、スプーンの内側のようなカーブを持つ。
Concave describes a surface or shape that curves inward, like the inside of a bowl. It is commonly used in geometry, science, and optics. The opposite of concave is convex.

concave は convex と必ずセットで覚えるのが最短です。どちらも con- で始まるので、見分けるポイントは後半だけ。cave や cavity を知っていれば「中が空いてへこんだ感じ」が浮かびやすく、concave は表面が内側へ沈む形です。スプーンの内側、concave mirror、concave lens など「中央がくぼむ」場面で結びつけると定着しやすいです。convex は逆に外へふくらむので、2語を対で反復すると混同しにくくなります。

concave はラテン語 concavus「くぼんだ」から来ており、con- と cavus「空洞の・へこんだ」に分けられます。中心へ向かって空洞になる形がそのまま意味になっており、cave や cavity も同じ cav- の仲間です。
