A demographer is a scientist or researcher who studies populations. They examine facts such as birth rates, death rates, aging, migration, and population change. The word is often used in social science, economics, public policy, and health research.

demographic（人口統計の）や demographics（人口動態）を見たことがあれば、その“人”版が demographer。語尾の -er は teacher, researcher などと同じく「〜する人」なので、まず形で覚えると定着しやすいです。国勢調査、出生率、高齢化、移民、人口予測のようなデータを分析する専門家を指します。geographer が地理を扱うのに対し、demographer は population data を扱う人、と対比すると整理しやすいです。democracy とつづりが少し似るので混同注意。
Start with `demographic` or `demographics`. A `demographer` is the person form, just like `teacher` or `researcher`, because `-er` often means "a person who studies or does something." It is easy to mix up with `democracy`, so link it instead to population charts, birth rates, and census data.

demographer は demo-「民衆・人々」（ギリシャ語 demos）と -graph-「書く、記録する」（graphein）からできた語です。つまり『人々を記録する人』で、人口の動きを調べる専門家を表します。demography や democracy も同じ語根です。
Demographer comes from Greek roots: demos, meaning "people," and graphein, meaning "to write" or "record." It developed through demography, literally the recording or description of populations. A demographer is therefore someone who studies and records patterns in human populations.
