atomic「原子の」が土台。そこに di-「2」が付いた形なので、まずは “2 + atomic” と分解して覚えると意味が取りやすいです。化学では dioxide, dipole など di- は「2」の合図としてよく出るので、その仲間として整理すると定着しやすいです。使う場面も「diatomic molecule」「oxygen is diatomic」のように、分子が2原子でできている説明にほぼ限定されます。triatomic なら3原子、monoatomic なら1原子と対比で覚えると混同しにくいです。
