熱中させる、熱意を起こさせる
verb 動詞人に熱意や興味を起こさせることを表し、enthuse someone about ... や受け身の be enthused by/about ... の形で使われる。単に熱心に語るのではなく、働きかけによって相手が乗り気になる点に焦点がある。
強い興味や熱意を示す、あるいは表現する。何かについて熱心に、うれしそうに語る行為。
Enthuse means to speak about something with strong excitement or to show great interest in it. It is often used when someone reacts very positively to an idea, plan, or activity, though it can sound slightly informal.
enthuse は名詞 enthusiasm、形容詞 enthusiastic とまとめて覚えると定着しやすい語です。中心イメージは、心の中で静かに熱中するというより、何かに強くわくわくして、その熱が話し方や態度にまで出ること。よく enthuse about ... の形で使い、映画・趣味・新製品・計画について熱っぽく語る場面が多いです。excited が一時的に興奮している感じなのに対し、enthuse は特定の話題をうれしそうに語る感じ。単に like より熱量が高く、boast のような自慢とも違う点を区別すると覚えやすいです。
Learn it with its family: `enthusiasm`, `enthusiastic`, `enthuse`. It often appears as `enthuse about`, so picture someone talking warmly and excitedly about a film, hobby, or new idea. It is stronger than just `like` and more topic-focused than general `excitement`.
She began to enthuse about her new job prospects.
彼女は新しい仕事の見通しについて熱く語り始めました。
He often enthused about the benefits of organic farming.
彼はよく有機農業の利点について熱く語っていました。
They enthused over the latest technological innovations at the conference.
彼らは会議で最新の技術革新について熱く語りました。

enthuse は enthusiasm からできた動詞で、もとは Greek en-「中に」+ theos「神」の組合せ。theology や atheist と同じ theos をもち、昔は「神が内に宿って奮い立つ」感覚だったと知ると、単なる熱中より高揚感の強い語だと分かる。
Enthuse was formed from enthusiasm, which comes from Greek en "in" and theos "god." The older idea was of being inspired as if a god were inside a person. Over time, this strong religious sense weakened, and the word came to mean showing intense feeling or excitement; related words include theology and atheist.
