fantasiseはfantasy + -iseで、fantasyはギリシャ語phantasia「心に現れる像」に由来する。芯にあるのはphainein「見せる」で、頭の中に像を見える形で立ち上げることが「空想する」なのだ。phantomやfantasticも同じ流れ。
Fantasise is formed from fantasy plus the verb ending -ise. Fantasy comes through Greek phantasia, meaning an image or appearance in the mind, from phainein "to show" or "make visible."
