解説 Definition
filtering は filter（ろ過する、選別する）の現在分詞・動名詞です。液体や空気から不要なものを取り除くこと、またデータや情報を条件に合わせて選び出すことを表します。
Filtering is the process of passing liquid, air, data, or information through a physical or logical filter to remove unwanted material or select items that meet particular conditions. It is the present participle and gerund form of “filter.”

Filtering is formed from filter plus -ing. Filter came through French filtre and Medieval Latin filtrum, a word for felt or another material used to strain liquid. The term is related historically to Germanic words for felt. Because liquids were passed through such material to remove particles, filter became a verb meaning “to strain.” Its meaning later expanded to selecting or excluding data, messages, and other nonphysical information.
