fob の語源・成り立ち Etymology
語源は低地ドイツ語Fobke（小さな入れ物）とされる。収納ポケットから時計用ポケット、さらに鍵飾りへと意味が転じた。「ごまかす」はfob offの形で、欺く意の独語foppenに由来し、不用物を押しつけてやり過ごす様子から来ている。関連語にfob off。
