Foresight is the ability to think about the future carefully and make wise plans. It is often used when someone sees possible problems or opportunities before others do. The word usually has a positive meaning.

foresight は Old English 由来の fore「前もって」+ sight「見ること」から成り、原義は『前を見ていること』です。まだ起きていない先を心の目で見る感覚が『先見の明』になり、foresee や hindsight と並べると sight の核がつかめます。
