Hindi は India、Indian、Hindu と同じ Hind- の仲間だとまとめて覚えると、「インドに関係する語」の一つとして定着しやすいです。ただし意味は別で、Indian は「インドの／インド人の」、Hindu は「ヒンドゥー教の／信者」、Hindi は「ヒンディー語」。特に Hindu とつづりが近いので混同注意。言語名として speak Hindi, write in Hindi, Hindi speaker などの形でよく出るので、単独でなく使い方ごと覚えると記憶に残ります。

ヒンディー語の名称はペルシャ語「Hind（インド）」に由来し、さらにサンスクリット語「sindhu（インダス川）」に遡る。川の名が地域名となり、さらにその地の言語名となった。関連語：India、Hindu。
Hindi comes from Persian Hind, meaning "India." That name goes back further to Sanskrit sindhu, the name of the Indus River. Over time, the river name became a regional name, and then the name of the language spoken there. It is related in history to India and Hindu.
