instated は in-『中へ』と、state や status に通じる語根 stat- から出た instate の過去分詞です。state や status と同根で、ラテン語 stare『立つ』にさかのぼり、『正式な位置に立たせる』感覚が『就任させる・制定する』に結びつきます。
Instated is the past form of instate, built from in- "into" and state. State is related to status and goes back to Latin stare, "to stand." The word developed from the idea of placing someone into an established standing or position.
