人や組織の社会的な地位・立場、または物事がその時点でどういう状態にあるかを表す名詞です。身分や評価の高さを述べる場合にも、手続き・配送・計画などの進み具合や現在の状況を示す場合にも使われ、文脈によって「地位」「状況」「進捗」などと訳し分けます。
