解説 Definition
満潮時には海水に覆われ、干潮時には露出する海岸の帯状区域、すなわち潮間帯に関することを表す形容詞。生物・地形・生態系などについて述べるときに使われ、海と陸の両方の影響を強く受ける環境や、その区域に住むものを示す。
Intertidal describes the area of the shore between the high-tide line and the low-tide line. This word is common in biology and environmental science because plants and animals there must survive both underwater and dry conditions.
