jojoba はメキシコ・スペイン語 jojoba から入り、さらにオオダム語 hohowi など先住民語にさかのぼる植物名。jojoba oil や jojoba meal にも同じ名が残り、接辞で作る語でなく土地固有の呼び名がそのまま世界語になったと分かる。
Jojoba entered English through Mexican Spanish jojoba, from an Indigenous language of the region, often given as O'odham hohowi. It is not built from smaller English parts but is a local plant name borrowed directly. That is why the word still keeps a strong sense of its regional origin in English, as in jojoba oil.
