覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
journal「日記・記録」に -ing が付いた形で、動詞では「記録している」、名詞では「書いて考えや経験を整理する活動」を表します。keep a journal という表現と結び付け、daily journaling、gratitude journaling、track progress のような典型的な組み合わせで覚えましょう。
Connect journaling directly with journal plus the -ing ending. As a verb form, it can describe someone who is currently keeping a journal; as a noun, it names the activity itself. Picture a person writing at the end of each day to organize thoughts or track study progress. Useful combinations include daily journaling, gratitude journaling, and use journaling to reflect. Unlike ordinary note-taking, journaling often includes personal reflection over time.

journaling の語源・成り立ち Etymology
journaling は journal に -ing が付いた語。journal は古フランス語 journal を経て、後期ラテン語 diurnalis「日ごとの」にさかのぼり、dies「日」が語源である。だから本来は「日々の記録」で、書いて整理する行為を表す。関連語は journal, journey。
Journaling is formed from journal and the suffix -ing. Journal entered English through Old French journal and ultimately goes back to Late Latin diurnalis, meaning “daily,” from Latin dies, “day.” It therefore developed from the idea of a daily record. The modern noun journaling emphasizes the continuing activity of writing such records, whether or not it is done every day.
