解説 Definition
keyboard は文字や記号を入力するためのキーボードという意味です。日本語のカタカナ語とほぼ同じですが、英語ではパソコン用だけでなく楽器の鍵盤を指すこともあります。

keyboard は key＋board の複合語で、key は古英語 cæg「鍵」、board は古英語 bord「板」に由来します。もともと「鍵の並んだ板」という字面そのままの語で、押す部分が板状に並ぶ感覚から今の意味になり、keyhole や boardroom が関連語です。
Keyboard combines key and board. Key comes from Old English cæg, while board comes from Old English bord, referring to a plank or flat surface.
