覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
kids は kid「子供」の規則的な複数形で、-s を付け、発音は /kɪdz/ と最後が「ズ」になります。日常会話のくだけた語なので、the kids「その子供たち」、two kids「二人の子供」の形で覚えましょう。children も複数ですが、より中立的で改まった場面にも使えます。子ヤギの複数という別義もあります。
Kids is the regular plural of kid: add -s, pronounced /z/ after the final /d/, so the word ends /dz/. Learn it in everyday combinations such as the kids, two kids, and kids are playing. In this sense, it is an informal word for children and sounds natural in ordinary conversation. Children is the more neutral plural and is often preferred in formal writing or official contexts. Kid originally meant a young goat and still has that meaning, so kids can also refer to young goats when the surrounding topic is farming or animals.

kids の語源・成り立ち Etymology
中英語 kide(子ヤギ)から。古ノルド語 kið に由来する。元は「子ヤギ」の意味だったが、16世紀頃からスラングとして「子供」にも使われ始め、現在では日常語として定着。kindergarten(幼稚園)の kind(子供)とは別語源である点に注意。
Kids is the plural of kid. Kid entered Middle English as kide, “a young goat,” from Old Norse kið. By the sixteenth century, English speakers were also using it informally for a human child, and that once-slang sense gradually became an ordinary part of everyday speech. The plural is formed regularly by adding -s. Despite the similar association with children, kid is not historically related to the German word Kind found in kindergarten.
