解説 Definition
病変とは病気や外傷により組織が損なわれたり異常な変化が起きたりした部分を指す。皮膚や臓器に現れることが多く診断や治療の対象になる。組織の状態から悪性か良性かを判断する材料にもなる。
A lesion is an area of damaged, injured, or abnormal tissue in the body. It is a medical word used for problems on the skin or inside the body. The term is technical, so it is more common in healthcare contexts than in everyday conversation.

lesionは古フランス語lesionを経て、ラテン語laesio「傷つけること」に由来し、語根はlaedere「打つ・損なう」です。つまり本質は「正常なものが傷んだ状態」で、医学で「病変」を指すのはこの感覚の延長です。関連語はcollide、collisionです。
Lesion came into English through Old French from Latin laesio, meaning "a hurting" or "injury." It comes from the verb laedere, "to strike, hurt, damage."
