A milligram is a unit of weight equal to one thousandth of a gram. It is commonly used for very small amounts, especially in medicine, nutrition, and chemistry. The usual abbreviation is mg.

milligram は、すでに知っている millimeter の milli- と同じ「1000分の1」の感覚でつかむと覚えやすい。gram が重さなので、gram よりずっと小さい単位だとすぐ連想できる。薬やサプリの表示では mg と略され、1000 mg = 1 g という換算もセットで覚えると定着しやすい。kilogram は体重、gram は食品、milligram は薬の量、という使用場面で並べると整理しやすい。似た形の milliliter は量の単位で、重さではない点にも注意。
