Nanoscience is the study of very small things at the scale of atoms and molecules. The word is mainly used in science and technology, especially when discussing new materials, medicine, and tiny devices.

nanoscience はギリシャ語 nanos「小人」と、ラテン語 scientia「知ること」に由来する science から成ります。nanometer や scientist と同じ要素をもち、「極小世界を探る学問」と見ると意味が一気につかめます。
