An olio is a mixture of different things that are put together, often in a varied or somewhat unrelated way. It can describe food, writing, music, or entertainment that has many different parts.

olio は英語に入る前のスペイン語 olla「鍋・煮込み料理」にさかのぼり、もとはラテン語 olla「壺・鍋」です。ひと鍋にいろいろ入った料理が、そのまま「寄せ集め」の意味になったと考えると腑に落ちます。olla や olla podrida が同じ根です。
Olio came into English from Spanish olla, meaning "pot" or a kind of stew, and that goes back to Latin olla, "pot" or "jar." Because such a dish mixed many ingredients in one pot, the word later came to mean a mixture of different things. The history of the word keeps that idea of a varied collection.
