怠る、し忘れる
verb 動詞omit to doの形で、本来すべき行為を行わない、またはうっかりし忘れることを表します。文章などから要素を取り除く意味とは異なり、後ろにto不定詞を取り、主に硬い文章で使われます。
文章や説明などから、不要または不都合な部分を意図的に除くこと。情報や項目を入れない場合に使う。
To intentionally leave information, an item, or a section out of something such as a document or explanation. It focuses on not including or mentioning material that could otherwise be present.
omit は、文章・報告・申込書などに本来入り得る情報を「入れずに省く」ことです。delete がすでにあるものを削除する操作にも広く使えるのに対し、omit は項目を記載・言及しない点に焦点があると押さえましょう。omit A from B(BからAを省略する)が基本形で、omit your address from the form、omit details from a report のように覚えます。受け身の A can be omitted(Aは省略できる)も説明文で頻出なので、併せて定着させると実用的です。
Learn the pattern “omit A from B,” such as leaving details out of a report. Unlike delete, which can describe removing something already present, this verb often focuses on not including it in the first place.
Please omit your address from the form.
その用紙には住所を記入しないでください。
He omitted several details from his report.
彼は報告書からいくつかの詳細を省略した。
This part can be omitted if necessary.

omitはラテン語omittere「放しておく・脇に置く」に由来し、ob-+mittere「送る・放つ」に分けられます。もともと「手元から外す」感覚なので、情報や項目を「省く」意味になりました。関連語はomission, missionです。
The word comes from Latin omittere, meaning “to let go” or “set aside,” and is formed from ob- and mittere, “to send” or “let go.” The idea of setting something aside developed into the sense of leaving information or an item out.
