pacは中世オランダ語・中低ドイツ語系のpac「束・包み」に由来すると考えられ、英語packと同系です。分解よりも「ばらばらの物を一つに固める」像が核で、だからパックは中身をまとめた一包みを指します。packetやpackageも同じ語根です。
