pin の先端にある非常に小さな丸い部分、つまり「針の頭」を指す名詞。また、俗語では頭が悪い、間抜けだと思われる人を軽蔑的に呼ぶ語としても使われる。文脈によって、文字通りの小ささの話か、人をののしる表現かが決まる。

Pinhead is a compound of pin and head, both very old English words going back to Old English pinn and heafod. It first meant exactly the head of a pin, the tiny rounded top. Because that object is so small, the word later developed a mocking sense for a foolish or small-minded person.
