rattan はマレー語 rotan がオランダ語などを経て英語に入った借用語で、熱帯のつる性ヤシを指しました。接辞に分ける語ではありませんが、原義がそのまま「籐」なので、古い異形の rotang も同系と見ると意味がつかみやすいです。
Rattan is a borrowing from Malay rotan, which passed into English through European trade languages such as Dutch. It originally named the tropical climbing palm itself. In English, the form changed slightly, but the meaning stayed close to the original plant and its cane; an older variant is rotang.
