覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
単数形 request に複数語尾 -s を付けた形で、語尾は /s/ ではなく /ts/ に近く発音されます。「依頼や要望が複数ある」と捉え、three requests、customer requests、receive requests、handle requests を一まとまりで覚えましょう。動詞の三人称単数形にも同じ形がありますが、ここでは複数名詞です。
Requests is the plural of the countable noun request, so use it when there is more than one appeal or desired action: three requests, several customer requests, or all your requests. The final -s follows the /t/ sound and is pronounced /s/, producing the ending /ts/. Useful combinations include receive requests, make requests, handle requests, and respond to requests. The same spelling can also be the third-person singular form of the verb request, but in this entry it names multiple things that people have asked for.

requests の語源・成り立ち Etymology
requests は request の複数形で、語源は古フランス語 requeste、さらにラテン語 requaerere「求める・問いただす」にさかのぼる。re-「強く・再び」+ quaerere「探す」の組み合わせなので、相手に何かを求めて申し出る意味が見える。関連語は question, require。
Requests consists of the noun request plus the regular plural ending -s. Request came into English through Old French requeste and is ultimately related to Latin requirere, meaning “to seek, ask, or inquire after.” That Latin verb combines re- with quaerere, “to seek or ask.” The word developed into a noun for an act of asking and later also became a verb. Question and require are historically related through the same Latin root.
