解説 Definition
仮想は実際には存在しないが、コンピュータ上や想像の中で用意された空間や物事を指します。たとえばゲームやインターネット上の世界など、人の操作で生み出された環境に使われます。現実に触れられなくても操作できたり体験できたりすることが多い点も特徴です。
Virtual describes something that exists in a digital or computer-based form rather than in a physical way. It is often used for online meetings, virtual worlds, and experiences that feel real but are created by technology.

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
virtual は「名前や形式は違っても、実際の働きはほぼそう」と覚えると、この語義がぶれません。a virtual leader は正式な肩書きがなくても実質リーダー、a virtual monopoly は法的に完全な独占でなくても現実には独占状態、という感覚です。デジタル上の「仮想の」だけに寄せず、「実体・名目は違うが、効果は本物に近い」から「事実上の」と押さえるとよいです。
