scripting は script「書かれた文・台本」に動作名を作る -ing が付いた語です。script はラテン語 scribere「書く」由来の scriptum「書かれたもの」から来ており、もともと「書いてあるもの」だから台本や命令文を指します。関連語に describe、manuscript があります。
Scripting is formed from script and the activity-forming ending -ing. Script comes from Latin scriptum, meaning something written, from scribere, to write. The word first referred broadly to written text and later to such things as handwriting and dramatic texts.
