Segmented is the past-tense and past-participle form of segment. It describes dividing people, data, images, markets, or other wholes into distinct groups or sections, or the resulting divided state.
使い方 Usage
- be segmented into＋部分・区画で、分割後のまとまりを示します。 Use be segmented into followed by groups or sections to describe the parts produced by division.
- segmented＋対象＋by＋基準で「対象をその基準で区分した」と表します。by age は「年齢別に」です。 Use segmented followed by an object and by plus a criterion to describe classification. By age means using age as the criterion.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
segment「区分する」にそのまま -ed を付けた形です。原形の語尾が /t/ なので -ed は /ɪd/ と発音し、一つのまとまりを区切る姿と結び付けましょう。
Add -ed directly to segment, meaning “divide into sections or groups.” Since segment ends in /t/, the ending is pronounced /ɪd/ and adds a syllable. Picture one whole divided into sections.
