slogan はスコットランド・ゲール語 sluagh-ghairm に由来し、sluagh「軍勢」+ gairm「叫び」からできた語です。もともとは戦場で味方を奮い立たせる「鬨の声」で、そこから人を動かす短い標語という今の意味になりました。関連語として古形 slogorn があります。
