神経障害により筋肉が過度に緊張し硬くなる医学的状態。脳卒中や脳性麻痺などの神経疾患に伴う症状で、運動能力を低下させる。
Spasticity is a medical condition in which muscles become stiff, tight, or hard to control. It often affects movement and can happen because of problems in the brain or nervous system. This is a technical health term, usually used by doctors or in medical contexts.

spasticity は spastic + -ity で、spastic はギリシャ語 spastikos「引っぱる性質の」がラテン語経由で入った語です。語根 span「引く」から、筋が引きつれて硬くなる感じが「痙縮」に直結し、関連語に spasm, spastic があります。
